The COVID-19 pandemic is a global calamity. It is one of the few events in human history that impacts everyone around the world, at the same time.

Countries and regions in Asia, especially in Hong Kong, have been early proponents of the use of surgical masks to slow down the spread of the disease. This tactic has proven to be effective, compared to other tactics such as mere “social distancing”.

One reason why countries might not adopt this practice is due to the fact that increases in demand must be met with proportionate increases in supply, but that is no simple task. Understandably, the short supply of surgical masks would go to healthcare workers on the front-lines of battling the pandemic.

On the contrary, Asia has rapidly increased production of surgical masks as a response to the pandemic. However, this increased supply as also come with negative externalities, namely, the rise of counterfeit products. Our desire to provide a high quality and genuine product amidst this pandemic is why we chose to launch our company, ToptiMask.
